Most recently Mr. Depel was the Group Global Head of Compliance for ENRC plc – a FTSE 30 integrated mining company. There he built a compliance function from scratch in challenging circumstances. During the past 2 years he has also completed the University of Chicago Booth Advanced Management Development program and the Mergers and Acquisitions program; and the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Strategic Management of Intellectual Property program taught by Harvard Business and Law School Faculty.
He holds or has held non-executive directorships in mining, financial services and strategy consultancy businesses. Mr Depel has been a Board Director of a retail derivatives exchange, several alternative investment management firms and brokers, and a major UK stockbroker. He has also served as the Chief Legal Officer for the largest UK insurer, Special Counsel to Lloyd’s, and was in private legal practice in London and San Francisco. He is a solicitor and is qualified to practice law in California, England and Wales. He has extensive UK Board practice.
Mr. Depel is a British and US citizen and has lived in London, England with his family for 20 years.
Professional Activities
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (FCSI), the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII), the Institute of Operational Risk (FIOR), and a former Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a past Fellow and Chairman of the Institute of Risk Management in 2006-07. He is a solicitor of the Court of England & Wales since 1997 and a California lawyer since 1990.
Education
He received his BSc (management and accounting) and JD (law) from Indiana University and a LLM (corporate finance and banking law) from King’s College, University of London.
